Cycling crash - Andrew Elcock (Sun, 19 Jun 2005 22:38:15 +0000)

OK, so it has been a really long time now, but I finally got round to taking a picture of the damage, so I thought I would write it up.

Helmet DamageWhen cycling home along the cycle paths a few weeks back some idiot-without-helmet-cycling-as-fast-as-he-can fool darted out in front of me on his bike not looking and not realising that he as on a footpath! Anyhow, after quite a while in Accident and Emergency (not caring, cos the shock put me in a really giggly state) the worried that I might have broken my wrist!

Turns out that everything is OK, no lasting injuries, but my helmet is a writeoff and the bike has / will require > £100 to repair it all, i have done some but think it might be a good time to get another one, this seems to give me bad luck!

Cycle safely out there IRL...

Deeply moving conference - Andrew Elcock (Tue, 05 Apr 2005 12:50:12 +0000)

No, you did not read it wrong! I am currently in Italy attending a Technical Committee meeting by OGC along with many other interested parties. As it was I was unsure if I would make it along it was agreed that I could have a couple of days in Rome first to make up for it, and what an event that turned out to be! We had obviously heard on the news that the Pope's health was faltering, but when we heard it was getting worse we went down to the Vatican along with thousands of others to hope and pray for the ailing pontiff. Each night we were down in St. Peter's square and were present at the Mass held in the open air at 9pm Vatican time on Saturday. Just after 9:30 we saw some lights on the upper floor switch off and we feared the worst. Of course, our Italian not bein quite up to scratch we could not decipher the announcement at the end of mass, but the meaning was clear. Never before have I seen so many thousand people huddled together in such silent reverance!

The incredibles - Andrew Elcock (Fri, 3 Dec 2004 00:57:58)

Well, it was just incredible - go see it. Now. Seriously! Best animated feature I have seen in a long time - beats even Finding Nemo. If you go see it can someone please explain what the crazy short animation at the start is about?

Engage icon file license difficulties - Andrew Elcock (Tue, 21 Sep 2004 08:20:24 +0100)

Due to the E code all using the BSD license it is proving difficult to get a nice iconset to use by default in E apps. This is being looked into by the E team and over time we expect to have a nice solution involving user contributions etc, but for now I have uploaded some icons for engage. This is a collection of .eet files to use in mappings and launcher folders. The icons are from Gnome and thus the set is PL for the time that it exists. Get it here

Engage uses E_App watchers - Andrew Elcock (Tue, 14 Sep 2004 22:52:53 +0100)

Well, now engage is using rasters excellent e17_pre5 code for configuring the iconbar aspect it is time to have some fun, so now if you add or remove an icon from the configuration engage will automatically adjust - cool no? :)

Engage gets system tray - Andrew Elcock (Sun, 12 Sep 2004 03:25:00 +0100)

Finally the long haul of learning the X system tray (or "notification area") specification has reaped some benefits. The code has pulled together to provide us with the tray you see below - it may not be perfect yet, but it certainly rocks!!!

More Enotes themeing - Andrew Elcock (Thu, 19 Aug 2004 18:03:31 +0100)

Well, more of the same really, but I thought that this was looking so nice it deserved an entry. The control center now has two modes, buttons as shown before and icons as per: . The modes switch using a cool little animation too :) Also of interest is the nice detail I added to the corner of each note vis: cool no? :) Engage folk don't worry, I have been working on that, and in line with rasters E17 iBar code I will be rewriting the configuration to make things a lot easier!
